6 Month Geographic Information System (GIS) Technician Internship

REQUIREMENTS: ESPA vacancies are open to all EU passport holders able to travel to the UK for an educational work
placement, without the need for visa documents. You have to still be a student or have graduated in the last 12 months.
Any student who is unsure of their visa situation should check with their university before applying.

This will be sourced and managed on your behalf by ESPA. These benefits have an approximate value of
700€-1000€ per month (depending on location).

The Host Company
This company produces unique mapping solutions for cities and complex buildings. The business was created
by the team responsible for the Legible London wayfinding project – a global standard in wayfinding design and city
movement and awareness.
The company has advanced the field of legible mapping for urban and interior spaces, has developed a platform that
supports walking and other soft mode travel and has a unique business model that will advance the mapping field
significantly. The business is now expanding rapidly and is developing and implementing applications for cities, campuses
and airports worldwide.
Role
As a GIS (Geographic Information System) technician you will be able to work as part of the GIS team on
projects and ad-hoc tasks as required.
The successful candidate will mainly work within GIS applications, manually manipulating attribute tables and editing
topographies and interest layers.
As a company they strive to create beautiful as well as technically proficient mapping systems. To this end an ability
to be flexible in the working practices and an ability to work within multiple disciplines is essential.
Location
The company has offices in Bath and London. The intern placement will be based in Bath.
Duration
6 months.
Start date
As soon as possible.
Languages
Upper-intermediate English knowledge. B2 minimum required.
Tasks
• Undertaking GIS mapping, analysis, data capture, data management and geoprocessing.
• Extraction and formatting of AutoCAD and tabular data into standard GIS formats.
• Assisting with day to day administrative tasks.
• Assisting non GIS staff with GIS related task and training.
• Working with designers to implement mapping plans.
Personal Skills
Essential:
• Quantum GIS (QGIS).
• Experience with surveying and analysing data in Excel.
• Spatial data types.
• Sources of open data.
• Creating documentation.
Desirable:
• SQL
• CAD
• Illustrator / MapPublisher
